Business, visitors focus of new chamber site
The Livonia Chamber of Commerce recently unveiled its revamped Web site
designed to serve as an economic development tool and an inviting information
source for visitors and potential new residents.
The address is: www.livonia.org.
The Web site redesign, completed by Livonia-based EnablePoint Technology
Consultants, features a home page that supplies four links: Relocation
and community information, visitor information, business development and
chamber information.
"Often times a Web page can help create the first impression someone
has of a community," Chamber President Wes Graff said. "It's
also a wonderful look for our members because it presents comprehensive
information and about membership, including a yearlong calendar of events."
The chamber, with input from Livonia's Economic Development Director
Jeff Bryant, provided new resources and information on the site for entrepreneurs
looking to start a business.
Various links and contact information to different organizations the
chamber partners are also featured throughout the site, including numbers
for city offices, local organizations and links for business development
assistance.
"We'll be constantly working to improve the site and develop helpful
online resources," Graff added.
False Alarm ordinance enforcement trend
results in comprehensive software application to track multiple false
alarm offenders.
Livonia, Michigan, October 11, 2004 - The City of Livonia
Michigan, partnered with EnablePoint, a Michigan based Software Company,
to implement a comprehensive false alarm tracking software program that
will increase the safety of their police departments by assisting in the
reduction of frequent false alarms. Software development began in 2003
and today the staff is announcing it is ready for the national marketplace.
The City of Livonia has been using the software since the start of 2004.
“The City of Livonia asked us to write a software application
that would keep count and track the number of false alarms for each address
in the city, and develop a billing system matching the local ordinance.”
said Frank Farren, President of the software company. “When we realized
billing frequent false alarm offenders is a growing trend nationwide,
we also included a development effort to easily adapt the software to
conform to any city’s ordinance."
Invoicing frequent false alarm offenders has three main
benefits to a municipality; the cost of police and fire labor is reduced
by assisting in deterring false alarms, the city’s income will increase
short term, and most importantly, each alarm run will not be a routine
experience for the police officer, increasing his or her guard and safety.
There are many issues to consider in adapting a new false
alarm ordinance. The False Alarm Billing (FAB) program has the ability
to handle situations such as a waiver of an alarm months after an appeal
process is completed through the city by the alarm owner. Another example
addressed is an alarm address where the tenant has moved and the new tenant
has also installed an alarm, and the previous tenant’s balance remains.
The ability to mark, track, and report on exempt addresses such as a public
school system building was also added. FAB even has the ability to identify
and correct missing or incorrectly recorded data from the officer or police
dispatch system.
There is also a unique approach to the implementation
effort. EnablePoint consultants travel onsite to the city and evaluate
the local municipal ordinance, set the parameters in the FAB software
to match the ordinance, work directly with the designated Police staff
to extract the false alarm data from the dispatch system, and personally
train the end user of the system. The company also sends the consultant
back for the first two month’s billing cycles to insure the system
is implemented properly and the municipal staff is trained properly. The
entire solution including consulting time is priced just under $15,000.
FAB possesses general accounting functions such as A/R,
Credits and Debit functions, interest charges, and invoice summaries,
although municipalities also have the option to export the data into the
main accounting system.
